Joe’s Random Movie Trivia: “American Psycho” (2000)

In the scene when Detective Kimball (Willem Dafoe) questions Patrick Bateman, director Mary Harron shot a few versions of it. One where Kimball knew Bateman was guilty, one where he knew Bateman was innocent, and one where he wasn’t sure if Bateman was guilty or not.

Harron then edited the versions into one scene, making the audience just as confused as Bateman is, as he’s being questioned.

Originally, a company called EMI was putting up money for the movie, but when the studio head finally read the script, he thought it was too blasphemous and pulled EMI out of the film’s production. Many of the cast and crew were already in Tunisia preparing the production and already building sets.

The film was saved at the last minute by musician and former Beatle, George Harrison. Who as it turned out was a big Monty Python fan and really wanted to see this movie made. Harrison mortgaged his house to put up the money which was around $4 million.

George Harrison even has a cameo in the film.
