On the bluray release of “The Exorcist”, author William Peter Blatty revealed what the science fiction author, Ray Bradbury, had to say about the story.
“Ray Bradbury once wrote that it’s actually a beautiful love story. Here’s a priest who gives his own life voluntarily to save a little girl he’s never met. He’s never met Reagan MacNeil. Only the demon.”
There’s a foreshadowing in the film that reveals the identity of the villain known as the Rainmaker in the future.
In the scenes taking place in the distant future, the Rainmaker’s henchmen are dressed in cowboy hats and black overcoats. In the scenes taking place 30 years prior, you’ll see that inside the boy Cyd’s room there is a similarly dressed figure on a poster as well as an action figure seen in his room.
There’s a scene in the film where Ace’s friend Woodstock refers to Ace as “Saint Francis”.
St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals.
